How It All Began I bet you are asking yourself, "Why would someone make a whole website about Abraham Lincoln?" or "Why Lincoln, why not Kennedy or something?". Well it's a pretty simple answer we think, but it is a story, so brace yourself. One day in the year 2009 of 10th grade, we were sitting in Mr. Baragar's Geometry class. Since we were not paying attention, or he wasn't really teaching anything at the time, Stephanie decided to draw on my notebook (like always). She happened to draw Mr. Lincoln here and we began talking about him. Of how he was a cool dude, how his top hats were extraordinary, how is beard was perfect, and his amazing act of freeing the slaves. since that day we have become of what our friends would call "obsessed" with him. Since the beginning we have created a country (with a flag, places/cities, and two awesome leaders), religion (and ten commandments to go along with it), clothing, and we are still in the process of making other things. We just discovered how Abe is one of the greatest presidents to have ever lived. We think that he should be given the up most respect and a lot of credit for all that he has done for this country. On the line of creating things for/about Lincoln like the country you can read more about that in "The Country" tab. |
About Abe Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12th, 1809 in a log cabin in Kentucky. His biological mother died from milk sickness and his father remarried a widow who Abe became very close to. But mainly grew up in Illinois. He was of the republican party and went on to be president for 4 years, 1861-1865. His Vice Presidents were Hannibal Hamlin and Andrew Johnson. He was preceded by James Buchanan and succeeded by Andrew Johnson, because of the assassination. His wife was Mary Todd Lincoln, who happened to grow up in a very wealthy family. He proposed to her just after one year after meeting her in Springfield, in 1839. Mary's parents disagreed with her marrying Abraham because he had a poor background. Abe and Mary had four children, Robert Todd, Edward, Willie, and Tad, Robert was the only one out of the four to live into adulthood. Abe was an unaffiliated Christian as he never officially acquired church membership. Abraham always had this deep depression, even though he would be frequently telling jokes and stories to his friends and family. Even though Abe was strong, a very talented wrestler, and very proficient with and ax, he disliked killing and harming animals even for food. Lincoln was fond of having pets of all sorts, he owned horses, cats, dogs, and a turkey. Abraham created a national banking system with the national banking act in 1863, resulting in standardized currency. He was the tallest president, standing at 6 feet 4 inches. He patented a system to alter buoyancy of steam boats in 1849. He ran a store in New Salem. Lincoln was the first president to have a beard. Lincoln was the first president to be assassinated. |
